Safety Tips Regarding Local Wildlife

Chestnut Forest is home to a variety of wildlife, including potentially dangerous creatures like water moccasins, alligators, and coyotes. Here are a few facts and safety tips to keep you and your family safe:
- Water moccasins (aka cottonmouth snakes): They often burrow near the edge of water. They sun themselves during the day, but are the most active at night.
- Alligators: Never feed alligators on land or by throwing scraps in the water. Alligators are most active between dusk and dawn.
- Coyotes: They’re active year round. Coyotes play an important role in the ecosystem by helping to keep rodent populations under control. However, they can prey on domestic cats and small dogs.
